Safe streets coalition partners and heading to Harrisburg PA to advocate for Parking Protected Bike Lanes and safety measures such as Jay Alert and Intelligent Speed Assistance legislation!

Over the past 9 years, there has been a statewide effort to legalize parking protected bike lanes. This common-sense and cost saving piece infrastructure is currently not allowed in the vehicle code because it would require cars to park further than 12 inches from the curb. The bill was originally named after Susan Hicks from Pittsburgh and Emily Fredricks from Philadelphia who were both killed while riding their bikes.

This event is co-hosted by the PA Safe Roads PAC, the Bicyce Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, Families for Safe Streets Greater Philadelphia, Bike Pittsburgh, and PA Downtown Center.

Volunteers and advocates will meet inside the capitol around 9:30am and then join a legislative breakfast at 10am. The rest of the day will be filled with volunteers and lobby leads meeting with elected officials to talk about the Parking Protected Bike Lane legislation.
