Members of CAMP during the panel discussion at the June 4 Pennsylvania Statewide Active Transportation Summit

We need your voice to improve active transportation in Pennsylvania!

We’re excited to announce the formal launch of the brand new statewide coalition to put a broad focus on improving biking and walking in Pennsylvania.

The Coalition for Active Mobility in Pennsylvania, or CAMP for short, will “champion state-level policies in support of active mobility with a focus on promoting healthy, safe, affordable, and environmentally sound transportation choices for people across PA.”

As none of our individual organizations can fully dedicate the resources necessary for sustained statewide work, forming this broad coalition will help coordinate our efforts and through collaboration make them more effective and efficient in changing policy and legislation across the Commonwealth.

The founding leadership includes Bike Pittsburgh, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, and Mobilify of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Many CAMP members were recently in Harrisburg for a number of reasons, including a lobby day at the Capitol, as well as the formal launch of the coalition at the Pennsylvania Statewide Active Transportation Summit on June 4.

At the Summit, founding members were part of a panel discussion to discuss the challenges of statewide advocacy, and make the case for why a broad coalition is necessary. The panel reviewed past efforts at organizing across the state, and how we learned that a coalition model may be the best path forward.

CAMP’s priorities fall into several buckets:

  • More funding for Active Transportation projects
  • Biking- and walking-friendly planning and policies
  • Legislation, around issues such as Parking-Protected Bike Lanes, e-bikes, e-scooters, and automated enforcement
  • Pennsylvania internal policies and practices
  • PennDOT reform

CAMP is currently looking to expand!

We need organizations around the state to join the coalition and build the strength of this new  unified voice for improving the daily experience of Pennsylvanians who bike, walk, use a wheelchair, take transit and ride trails.

We look forward to welcoming other local and regional groups that support active transportation from around the Commonwealth. Whether active transportation is part of your core mission or you work in an allied field, safe and accessible transportation impacts everyone. Please fill out the interest form below to learn more.
