October 1-8: Join Pennsylvanians to pledge a Week Without Driving

The Week Without Driving is a national observance taking place from October 1 to 8, during which participants pledge to go about their daily routine without driving and instead walk, bike, take transit, go remote, or ask for rides to get where they need to go. It is being promoted nationally by the Nondrivers Alliance with support from AmericaWalks and in Pennsylvania by the Transit for All PA coalition.

Throughout the week, people share about the experience on social media. If a person has to drive, it becomes an opportunity to consider and discuss how challenging that trip would have been for one of their nondriving neighbors.

Join us in pledging to take part and in the Week Without Driving and call for true mobility options for all in Pennsylvania.

Even if you can’t commit to a week, or even a day, we want you to share your story! Many people would love to not be dependent on their car, but due to any number of reasons, must drive. These stories are important too!

What else you can do?

  • Spread the word about Week Without Driving
  • Plan your week and see if you can even take one day without driving
  • Share about your experience: use hashtag #WeekWithoutDrivingPA and tag @transit4allpa

Why are we doing this and asking you to do so? What’s the big picture?

This is all about making the case for meaningful legislative solutions and new funding streams for public transportation, biking and walking. Week Without Driving highlights the experiences across the Commonwealth, and helps decision-makers see that they all have a stake, not just in the highways and bridges, but also in shared ride, public transportation, fixed route services, and the infrastructure that allows people to get to, from, and between them.
